We’re back with another #OnesToWatch instalment! It’s just under a week until voting closes, so make sure you head over to The UNIs website to cast your vote. If you’re still unsure on who to vote for, check out this blog post and more from the #OnesToWatch series.

We’re covering the International category this week, and the best society will win £1k worth of flights, courtesy of StudentUniverse, our category partners. They’ll also have the opportunity to win the main £5k prize, courtesy of Co-op.

British Asian Society

At the top of the leaderboard, the University of Manchester’s British Asian Society aims to connect British Asians in Manchester, as well as educate non-Asians about the vast array of culture within the demographic. They bring many different Asian societies within the uni together over shisha, club and game nights hosted regularly. The membership also gives students discounts to local restaurants.

Imperial College Nigerian Society

At Imperial College London, the Nigerian Society brings Nigerians and students interested in Nigerian culture together. Their aim is to preserve and promote all things Nigerian, and to encourage their society members to give back to their homeland. They host social and professional events throughout the year and are keen to open themselves up to companies interested in Nigerian talent. They’re currently seventh on the leaderboard, but there’s still time to push them a bit higher!

One World Society

Currently in third place, the One World Society at Coventry University recognises the amount of diversity it has and has opened up its doors for students from many cultural backgrounds to share their experiences with others. This award-winning society host many different events from many different cultures throughout the year, and have also been to a few cultural hotspots in the past few years.

Islamic Society

Coming up in close second are the University of Exeter’s Islamic Society, which allows people with an interest in Islam and those from an Islamic background to come together. They’re inclusive of everyone, and are able to facilitate many events, film screenings, and free resources on Islamic teachings for its members to become more knowledgeable on the faith.

Spanish Society

Another society from the University of Manchester, the Spanish Society aims to provide students with a taste of Spanish culture through events and activities. Its flamenco classes, sporting events and social gatherings help provide a sense of community for those interested in Spanish culture. They’re currently ninth, but if you want to get them up the leaderboard you still have time.
