Campus Pulse Check: Activism on campus
We’re back with another Campus Pulse Check, delving into the most pressing of student marketing topics for brands, both consumer and employer. Register here.
At 2pm on Tuesday 25th May, we’ll be presenting some research into activism on campus. After the unprecedented and eventful past year, we’re asking several important questions to students on how they envision life now after all that has happened. How are they holding brands & employers accountable? What sort of new world do they want to build after covid? Are they themselves an impossible group to please?
Along with sharing the insights from our Pulse Check research, we’ll be following up with two panels, one of opinionated students and one of industry experts.
Panellists include:
Tom Rouse, Director of Creative Strategy – Don’t Cry Wolf, Associate Lecturer – London College of Comms.
Tom has made a career out of using comms to drive meaningful change – starting life in journalism and political communications, before a rapidly receding hairline led him to make the switch to agency life. Since then he’s delivered creative communications work for the likes of Microsoft, Ubisoft, HomeAway, Innocent and Travelex. He is the Director of Creative & Strategy for Don’t Cry Wolf – a specialist brand activism agency which helps brands of all shapes and sizes take a stand – across social, environmental and political issues. He’s also an associate lecturer at London College of Communications – specialising in teaching students about the world communicators operate in.
Mara Silvestri, Director of Digital Communications – One Young World.
Mara Silvestri is the Director of Digital Communications at One Young World, the global forum for young leaders. Mara manages the organisation’s communications strategy and engagement with its audience of over 1 million followers. She has spearheaded campaigns and strategies to drive forward One Young World’s mission of identifying, promoting and connecting the world’s most impactful young leaders.
Mark Robinson-Field, Member Participation Manager – Co-op.
Mark is the Member Participation Manager for Co-op, here to encourage their 4.5 million member owners into becoming active participants in their vision of “Co-operating for a Fairer World”. His team can currently be found mobilising members in co-creating our stance on climate change, developing some amazing new ice-creams, getting members to stamp out violence against shop workers and of course working alongside the amazing Co-op Young Members’ Group @cymb to encourage more young people to get involved.
Léa Weimann – Speaker, Greenpeace
Léa is a passionate environmentalist who has organised environmental campaigns in South Africa, Germany, and the UK. She co-organised and led four global climate marches in St Andrews, including the Line in the Sand event, and was the Student Association Environment Officer 2020-21. Léa is advisor to the Environmental Sustainability Board that set up the new Environmental Sustainability Strategy for the University. She is a Greenpeace Youth Speaker and runs her own blog, radio show, and podcast “Eco-Activist Journeys”. She has published a non-for-profit poetry book called DEAR EARTH which was launched in St Andrews in March 2020.
