The UNIs: #OnesToWatch – Sports
Public voting for The UNIs went live this past Tuesday, and the votes have been pouring in! We’ve had well over 10,000 views to our site in this week, and votes have been in their thousands.
We thought it might be good to tell you a bit more about the societies at the top of the leader board, and some others we think are cool. This week, the #OnesToWatch come from one of the most popular categories – sports. The winning sports society will get five tickets to Lovebox courtesy of Vibe Tickets. Here’s 5 societies that you might want to have a look at:
BUWRFC – Women’s Rugby
These guys are a cool family of women at Bournemouth University who’ve bonded through rugby. They get through the struggles of university together, overcoming their difficulties through sport, comradery and friendship. They give the men a run for their money, know how to party, and are currently 5th in the Sport category leader board.
Dance Society – University of Manchester
With over 200 members, they’re a society of mixed ability dancers who invite students from all over Manchester – University of Salford, Manchester Metropolitan University and the Royal Northern College of Music are all represented here. They compete in many competitions with many styles, including contemporary, jazz and street, and are invested in increasing inclusion & integration within dance. They’re currently 7th on the leader board.
CSU
The current leaders of the Sports category with over 1000 votes, the Cheerleading at Stirling University (CSU) know how to captivate an audience’s support! They’re a family of people who love to cheer and have monthly events to support great causes & charities, such as the National AIDS Trust and World Mental Health Day. They’re inclusive and the society has helped its members maintain positivity through uni.
Bangor MudDogs American Football
Sitting at 3rd with just under 1000 votes, these American footballers at Bangor University are a strong support network as well as a team. They train everyone who comes into their team, and even provide equipment to open up the sport to people from many backgrounds. They also provide a big brother system where more experienced players can partner up with new recruits to help them in the society.
Karate Club – University of Leeds
This last society isn’t in the leader board, but it’s still worthy of a mention. The Karate Club at Leeds allows people of all abilities to learn the traditional respect of the sport. They build their strength, learn self-defence skills, and practice karate all the way up to international competition level.
